A Message From Our Founder
Dr. Barry Sears, President of the Inflammation Research Foundation
More than 30 years ago I realized the future of medicine did not lie with developing new magic bullets for any particular disease but developing an overall dietary program to keep inflammation in a zone. This would allow us enough of an inflammatory response to defend ourselves against microbial invasion and help heal our injuries, yet at the same time prevent excess inflammation from attacking our organs leading to the development of chronic disease at an earlier age.
Although our understanding of the power of anti-inflammatory nutrition to affect our hormones and the expression of our genes has dramatically increased, the communication of that knowledge to the general medical establishment and the lay public has seemingly been ignored.
My goal in establishing the Inflammation Research Foundation more than a decade ago was to undertake the basic clinical research that the government was seemingly uninterested in funding and publishing that research in peer-reviewed journals to demonstrate there was an alternative way. To date, more than 17 peer-reviewed articles have come from the Inflammation Research Foundation that demonstrate another pathway is possible to address some of the most intractable chronic diseases facing us today.
Your support will help expand our efforts to return to the beginnings of modern medicine when Hippocrates said, “Let food be your medicine, and let medicine be your food.” It is the mission of the Inflammation Research Foundation to make that insight of some 2,500 years ago become the foundation of 21st-century anti-inflammatory medicine.
Dr. Barry Sears,
President of the Inflammation Research Foundation
